Fast Forward Concrete Cutting partnered with PCL Construction to perform selective demolition and precision concrete cutting at the UCLA Engineering VI Building, focusing on the 5th floor and roof.
Project Details
Project Type: Demolition and Concrete Cutting
Location: UCLA Engineering VI Building
General Contractor: PCL Construction
Project Duration: 6 weeks
Scope of Work
The project required careful coordination, experienced personnel, and off-hours work to ensure minimal disruption to the active university environment.
On the 5th floor, our team completed selective interior demolition, including the removal and salvage of fire cabinets, demolition of double stud walls, removal of double doors, and removal of gypsum board and framing around column furring. The work was executed during off-hours to maintain operational continuity within the building.
At the roof level, Fast Forward performed roofing removal and dismantling of C-channel purlins. The team also conducted detailed scanning prior to cutting operations to ensure safety and accuracy.
A key component of the project involved precision saw cutting of the concrete and metal deck to create multiple mechanical and plumbing openings of varying sizes. Following the cuts, our crew carefully broke and removed the concrete and metal deck sections to prepare the structure for new mechanical installations.
Execution & Equipment
The project was supported by a skilled crew comprising a foreman, laborers, and an apprentice, along with specialized equipment, including a scissor lift, scanning, saws for purlin removal, and material handling systems. Waste management and site protection measures were implemented to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Result
Through close collaboration with PCL Construction, the Fast Forward team delivered efficient, precise demolition and cutting services to support ongoing upgrades at UCLA’s Engineering VI facility. Our experienced crew ensured the work was completed safely, on schedule, and to the high standards required for a leading research university.
