Los Angeles Metro Regional Core Drilling Project

Los Angeles Metro Regional Core Drilling Project

Fast Forward Concrete Cutting was brought in by Cyrcon Builders to support critical infrastructure improvements across multiple Metro stations in Los Angeles.

Project Details

Project Type: Core Drilling & Bollard Foundations
Location: DTLA Metro Stations
General Contractor: Cyrcon Builders

Start Date: September 2025
Finish Date: December 2025

This multi-location project required precise coordination, advanced scanning technology, and high-production core drilling to prepare for new bollard installations.

Precision Planning with GPR Scanning

At each station, 2nd & Hope, 2nd & Broadway, and 1st & Central, our first step was comprehensive Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning. Working in active urban transit environments demands zero margin for error. Our scanning ensured all embedded utilities and structural elements were identified before cutting began, allowing the project to move forward safely and efficiently.

Large-Diameter Core Drilling – The Core of the Project

Core drilling was the primary focus of this scope. Our team drilled 24-inch-diameter holes through a 6-inch-thick concrete slab on grade to accommodate new bollard foundations.

Breakdown by station:

  • 2nd & Hope Station: 32 cores
  • 2nd & Broadway Station: 7 cores
  • 1st & Central Station: 59 cores

Executing large-diameter cores of this scale requires experienced operators, proper rig setup, and disciplined production management. With a dedicated foreman, skilled core drill operator, and labor support, our crew maintained steady output while meeting project timelines across multiple sites.

Bollard Foundation Excavation & Material Handling

Following core drilling, our team excavated foundations measuring:

  • 2′ diameter x 1′-6″ deep
  • 2′ diameter x 6″ deep

Material removal included approximately one-ton loads of dirt and concrete, handled efficiently to maintain site cleanliness and workflow continuity.

Delivering Performance in an Active Transit Environment

Working across multiple stations in Los Angeles requires precision, coordination, and strict adherence to safety protocols. By combining advanced GPR scanning with high-capacity core drilling and controlled excavation, Fast Forward Concrete Cutting delivered:

  • Accurate and clean 24″ core openings
  • Safe execution with no utility conflicts
  • On-schedule performance across all locations
  • Professional site management in active public infrastructure settings

This project highlights our capability to handle large-diameter core drilling and multi-location transit work with consistency and precision.

Fast Forward Concrete Cutting continues to support major infrastructure projects throughout Los Angeles with reliable crews, advanced equipment, and production-driven execution.
