Fast Forward Concrete Cutting was awarded a major structure demolition project for the City of Compton at E. Compton Boulevard.
Project Details
Project Type: Demolition and Debris Removal
Location: E. Compton Blvd, Compton, CA 90221
Project Duration: 13 days
Project Scope
The project brought together environmental abatement, public protection, heavy structural demolition, extensive debris hauling, material separation and recycling within a carefully coordinated demolition operation over a 13 day period.
The scope involved the demolition and removal of approximately 21,420 square feet of structures, including multi-story buildings and a single-story metal and tin warehouse. Existing slabs and footings were designated to remain.
With the site located along Compton Boulevard and Spring Avenue, maintaining a controlled work environment and coordinating demolition, trucking, debris removal and recycling were essential throughout the project.
Project Highlights:
- 21,420 Square Feet Demolished
- 1,090+ Tons Debris Managed
- 1,002+ Tons Debris Recycled
- 92% Recycling Rate
Site Protection & Environmental Abatement
Before structural demolition commenced, approximately 210 linear feet of walk-through barricade systems were provided along Compton Boulevard and Spring Avenue to protect the surrounding area and maintain controlled access during the work.
The project also required abatement of designated asbestos-containing materials, including ACM floor tile and mastic and acoustical ceiling materials identified in the City’s survey.
Karcher Environmental performed the asbestos removal and environmental abatement, coordinating this specialized work prior to the structural demolition phase.
Demolition of More Than 21,000 Square Feet of Structures
Following completion of the required abatement, Fast Forward Concrete Cutting performed the structural demolition and removal work, including:
- Approximately 9,700 square feet of a two-story structure
- Approximately 9,300 square feet of a one- and two-story structure
- Approximately 2,420 square feet of a single-story metal and tin warehouse
- Structural demolition while maintaining the designated existing slabs and footings
- Separation and loading of demolition materials for hauling, recycling and disposal
- Removal of debris and trash generated throughout the demolition operation
The work was performed by an experienced demolition crew utilizing union-operated heavy equipment, including an excavator equipped with a clam bucket and breaker, supported by continuous trucking and debris-removal operations.
Metropolis Disposal – Coordinated Debris Removal
To support the extensive material-removal requirements of the project, Fast Forward utilized its sister company, Metropolis Disposal, for demolition debris removal and hauling.
This sister-company coordination helped keep demolition and material removal moving efficiently throughout the project. As structures were demolished, materials could be separated, loaded and removed from the site in a coordinated sequence, helping maintain an organized work area and supporting the project’s aggressive demolition schedule.
Working together, Fast Forward Concrete Cutting and Metropolis Disposal provided an integrated approach to demolition and debris management, from structural demolition and concrete breaking to hauling, recycling and disposal.
1,090 Tons of Demolition Material Managed
A major component of the project was managing the substantial volume of material generated during demolition.
The final recycling documentation records 1,090.24 tons of material generated and processed through multiple recycling and disposal facilities. Of that total, 1,002.47 tons were recycled and only 87.77 tons were disposed.
Materials were separated into several waste streams, including concrete, brick, scrap metal, and construction and demolition (C&D) debris. Concrete and brick were directed to recycling facilities, while scrap metal was separately hauled to SA Recycling of Los Angeles.
With Metropolis Disposal supporting the removal and hauling operation, Fast Forward was able to efficiently move the large volume of demolition material from the site while recyclable materials were directed to appropriate processing facilities.
92% Recycling Rate
The environmental performance of the project was a significant achievement.
Of the 1,090.24 tons of material managed:
- 1,002.47 tons were recycled
- 87.77 tons were disposed of
- 92% of the total material was recycled
The project’s recycling documentation records material moving through facilities including California Waste Services, Chandler’s, SA Recycling of Los Angeles, Vulcan–Sun Valley and Downtown Diversion.
The 92% recycling rate demonstrates the project’s commitment to responsible demolition practices, effective material separation and construction-waste diversion.
Major Demolition Completed in 13 Days
Despite the size of the structures, extensive hauling requirements, environmental coordination, public-protection measures and material-separation requirements, Fast Forward completed the demolition operation in approximately 13 days.
The City of Compton project demonstrates Fast Forward Concrete Cutting’s capability to undertake demanding commercial and municipal structural demolition projects requiring heavy equipment, experienced manpower, careful site coordination and large-scale material management.
The collaboration between Fast Forward Concrete Cutting and sister company Metropolis Disposal also provided an important operational advantage, combining structural demolition expertise with coordinated debris removal and hauling.
From site preparation and structural demolition through concrete breaking, material separation, hauling, recycling and site cleanup, the team delivered a coordinated demolition operation while achieving an exceptional 92% recycling rate.
Fast Forward Concrete Cutting – Depend On It!
